It’s Earth Week this week, so today’s 3 Things Thursday is dedicated to all things ‘Green.’ And make sure you read to the end for your chance to share your #3ThingsThurs post as well as to enter my Green Beauty Giveaway!
1. ‘Green’ Lips
After my big phase at age 16 with Mac’s dark brown Toast of New York lipstick colour, lipstick just fell out of my make-up repertoire. Instead I started to use lip balms, lip gloss and chap stick. Then a while back, my two-year old asked if she could put some on her lips as well. It got me thinking about whether or not I was okay with her using these products on her lips. I’d never really thought about the chemical make up of what I was putting on my face. Then I discovered Pangea Organics Canada Fennel with Grapefruit & Sweet Orange Lip Balm! This awesome product not only smells no delicious (that I feel like eating it!) it’s also made of all-natural ingredients so it’s even safe for your kids to use. It goes on smooth and keeps your lips moisturized. This Lip Balm is a winner for me in the beauty and Earth-friendly departments!
One of the things that I was looking forward to when moving into a house was having a bigger compost. We were actually going to build one ourselves, but I found out that when you live in a house, The City of Coquitlam will actually be providing us with a Green Can Cart AND they will pick them up once a week.
In this awesome ‘green’ can you can put all your food scraps and your yard trimmings that would normally go into the garbage. Imagine how much less garbage you will have and how much will stay out of the landfills and will instead be composted. Here’s a list of items that you many not have know is compostable:
You should check out your local municipality website and see if they offer a similar program and get your ‘green’ on this Earth Week 🙂
3. ‘Green’ Moisturizer
So you know that I don’t literally mean a green coloured moisturizer but after I started thinking about how my lip balm is made, it made me start thinking about the ingredients in other things that I use regular, like moisturizer. I’m a big hand moisturizer. I keep a little tube in my purses, one in the car and beside my bed. It keeps my hand soft and free of paper cuts but what really goes into them. I asked a friend of mine who owns OrganicallyHatched.com and one of the product lines she mentioned was called ‘All Things Jill.’ They make a hand and body cream that is made with all natural ingredients and only a little goes a long way. It comes in different scents and I’ve really been enjoying using it, especially knowing that it’s an Earth-friendly product that I’m putting on my skin.
Those are my #3ThingsThurs for Earth Week. Make sure to check out my co-hosts as well, Nisha at Love Laugh Mirch and Raj at Pink Chai Living. We’d love you to join us and share your 3 Things Thursday blog post. Just follow the link-up below and feel free to use the 3 Things badge on your post.

I’ve never really thought too much about what’s in the lip balm that Z uses, but now I will check it! Love all your green ideas 🙂
I love that the city helps in your efforts to compost and waste not! Those creams sound lovely – lucky Canadians 😉
Thanks for sharing these great products! I am trying to be greener by doing a simple thing of not turning on lights in the house unless necessary
I will check these out. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve never been big on putting stuff on my face. Too many chemicals! These products sound great and I would be more than willing to try them. Thanks for the opportunity!
I’m getting a larger composting bin and we recycle everything we can.
Agi:)

We always recycle and try to use products made in biodegradable containers. We shower quickly and make an effort to use less water while cleaning.
The Green Can idea is really nice for homeowners who can’t or don’t want to compost, or apartment dwellers. (Although I have two worm bins, not everyone wants to do that). My local municipality in New York State has a separate collection of paper, plastic and other materials but no Green Can. I won’t be entering the giveaway because I am not Canadian, but wanted you to know I appreciated this post.
Salma you’d be thrilled to see how strict the ‘burbs here are about trash – it’s 3 bags EVERY TWO WEEKS, then unlimited compost and recycling every week. I forget how important that is until I read posts like yours!
I recycle and compost whatever I can!
I try and recycle as much as i can but never really thought about Chapstick or lip balm chemicals…I would only make sure my makeup is not tested on animals. Thanks for the post..it got me thinking more.
I love compost pick up! We don’t have it here but I sure do miss it!
Ah; I don’t think I’ve ever checked the ingredients of my lip balm! I will now!
I try to minimize what gets put in the trash. I recycle and compost everything that I can. Always keep a small shopping bag in my car or purse so I don’t need to use more plastic. Lights out and enjoy the sunlight
Love the idea of more natural products
Using more natural products/less chemicals, recycling, reusing, no vehicle so my main source of transportation are my own feet 🙂
I\m involved with my school’s environmental club!
we currently use a green bin system for food scraps
I’m driving less and using less electricity. I’m shutting lights off when I’m not in the room!
I’ve never used any of these products. Maybe I’ll check some if them out 🙂
we recycle all the time,I wash our clothes in cold water, and hang the clothes on the line to dry!
Buying products with little packaging and recycling/composting everything else.
We recycle and compost and walk whenever we can! These product sound great. I’m always looking for things with less chemicals. 🙂
Conserving water and recycling
Trying to use less plastic
I’ve become a recycling and composting queen!
This year we are focussed on reducing energy costs (unplugging things when not in use like radio, toaster oven, etc), and throwing out less food/reducing our consumption to start with and therefore reducing our waste.
We always buy chemical free coffee and I try to use as many natural products as I can. I love Pangea, great brand!
We have our own veggie garden and compost like crazy!
