Being a Thriving Mom

I was recently asked the question, what does being a thriving mom mean to you? It took me a while to figure it out. The reason being, when you actually think about being a mom, of course your first thoughts go to the kids. Are they being well fed, getting enough sleep, playing, making friends, reading books, the list goes on.

But all those things I mentioned also apply to us as mothers. Are we eating properly, getting enough sleep, doing things we enjoy and hanging out with friends as well? A lot of the time, when we step into the role of mom, we end up putting ourselves on the back burner, it’s just a fact of life.

Even when all those necessities are being taken care of in both parent and children, it is often not enough. I know for myself it’s not. When I first stopped working as a Television Producer to be at home with the kids, I felt uncertain and I had a sense of loss. It was my decision to stay with the kids, but I still needed something for myself, a creative outlet, a way to be productive in something I loved, a way to fulfil my passion while affecting others in a positive way.

TM featureTwo years later, I can say that I am really lucky to have been able to find that. I am able to be at home with the kids, be involved in activities, playdates, first moments and all the rest while still being a thriving mom. I write on my blog regularly, something I am very passionate about, I work on social media and blogger outreach for local businesses and I just recently launched a new business, the South Asian Bloggers Network. This is not to say I’m not still overwhelmed at times, tired and sometimes cranky, but I’m happy.

I love my family more than words can express and at the same time, I still need to fulfil myself as a person. Put together it makes me a happier and better person, mother and wife.

So when I was asked to be an ambassador for the upcoming Thriving Moms Event being held my Conscious Divas, of course I said yes! The reason behind this event is to help us moms ignite the fire that lives inside all of us as women and ultimately assists us in being more present and fulfilled mothers.
