One Coffee Cup Can Make a Difference #EarthDay

We do as much as we can in our household to reduce our carbon footprint and be as green as we can. We recycle, compost, use reusable containers for lunches, use reusable grocery bags, shop local, use our own water bottles, don’t let the tap run when we are brushing our teeth, the list goes on.

As much as we do, there is always more. With Earth Day next week, April 22, I’ve been looking at what other things we can do to help the environment. I can across this fun video on YouTube:

I was pretty surprised to find that the entire video was filmed by Starbucks using only one cup. And that got me thinking. As diligent as I am about bringing our own water bottles everywhere I go, whenever I go out to grab a tea with the hubby or a coffee with friends, it’s always in a cup that I end up throwing away. Imagine the waste that we’d be saving, if EVERYONE just brought their own reusable cups to get their tea or coffee, it’s pretty mind boggling actually.

Free coffee

And yes, sometimes it’s an inconvenience or you forget to bring it with you but think about it, if you keep a couple of reusable coffee cups in your car, just like you do with reusable shopping bags, you’d be set each time!

Starbucks Canada wants to help. They sell reusable coffee cups for only $1. Each time you use one, you save 10 cents off your drink. And on Earth Day, if you bring in a reusable cup, Starbucks will give you a free brewed coffee or tea. In my mind, that’s a win-win situation!

So on Wednesday April 22, Earth Day, get your free cup of coffee and make a difference.

What is something new you will be doing on Earth Day to reduce your carbon footprint?

*This is a sponsored post. As always, all opinions and words are my own. The free tea and coffee is at participating Starbucks locations.

  1. The video is so cute with such an important message! We definitely try to recycle as much as we can in our day to day lives. I don’t buy coffee that often, but I definitely think using a re-useable coffee mug is a great idea!! I also try to keep reuseable grocery bags in my car so I never forget them when I go grocery shopping. I have definitely seen it make a difference.

  2. That’s a great idea to take your own cup for coffee. But, as for only using one cup to make the video, how is that? Did they superimpose a cartoon onto the outside? I’m not actually asking you. But cartoons are made up of hundreds of little pictures, so they must have used something else before hand. Just a thought. hehe.

  3. Hi Salma,

I think it’s wonderful how you manage to remember all of these holidays and you practice them purposefully. I hardly watch the news, read the newspaper or pay attention to holidays other than the usual Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.

I don’t buy many paper cups, paper plates, etc… because I can’t see spending the money when you can use glass and wash the items later. I don’t even consider buying them for picnics, birthday parties and the like.

So… I’d like to think that I am conscious every day on saving the environment. 🙂

  4. I remember the very first Earth Day. For this one, I may be getting a new heating system in my house- one which is 97% efficient.

  5. Thank you for reminding us all how we can contribute to help our planet. I love those reusable coffee cups! I stack 2 together and use them for my morning chai on the way to work – and for only $1 they are such a great deal!
