I make homemade snacks for the myself and the kids whenever I can. Things like cut up fruits and veggies, smoothies, granola balls, mini muffins and homemade popsicles are in regular rotation. But there are times when I just don’t have the time to make anything or I am in a rush. So today, I’m sharing 5 of My Favourite Store-Bought Snacks.
1. Greek Yogurt
Yogurt is a favorite in our house. It’s the perfect size for a snack, plus it tastes great and packs in a lot of protein. Add in some chopped nuts or berries and you have a sundae happening. I have to add, that I recently discovered the Key Lime flavour in the Oikos Greek Yogurt and O M G, it is sooo delicious! Every time I eat one, it’s like having dessert and I need to savour every bite. I even got the hubby hooked on this one.
2. Cheese
Cheese Strings & Baby Bell Cheese are a must in our fridge! They are a perfect evening snack, in-between meals snack and when you’re running out the door, it’s easy to grab with an apple. Cheese is high in protein it’ll help keep you full or at least tide you over until the next time you eat. Bonus, Cheese Strings are FUN to eat too!
3. (Protein) Granola Bars
We keep a few different types of granola bars in our pantry because it’s another great grab and go snack, especially if you’re in a rush. I keep a few protein granola bars in the house for those mornings when I am headed to the gym and don’t have time to come home after to eat. (Paired with a boiled egg,) they are filling after a workout.
Of course the kids like the chocolate chip granola bars and the fruit and nut ones so we keep those on hand as well. There are some great at-home granola bar recipes but if you don’t have the time, the store bought ones can be a life-saver
4. Rice Cakes
Rice cakes may sound weird as a favourite snack, but a former co-worker introduced them to me a while back and I was hooked on these Tomato Basil Rice Cakes. They are great if you’re craving something salty or crunchy. They also taste great when topped with tuna. (I add some mustard, chopped green pepper, salt & pepper to the tuna first.) They are also great to keep in the car for any snack emergencies for the yourself and the kids.
5. Mango Yogurt Bars
Craving something sweet at night but don’t want to indulge too much? Try these Mango Greek Smoothie Yogurt Bars, they are really good! And at only 100 calories a bar, it’s not a huge indulgence.
Goldfish – I’m not adding these in my official favourite snacks category but they are one of my guilty pleasures. I don’t know what it is about goldfish, but once I start snacking on them, I can’t stop!
Some of my other favourite go-to snacks are boiled eggs, snap peas, cheese and crackers, blueberries, apple slices, almonds, cashews and Stovetop Popcorn.
What are your favourite snacks?

These would all probably be in my top 5 as well.. except for rice cakes… not sure if we can get the favor here in the states. And I’m definitely going to look for the key-lime Oikos flavor too!
The key lime yogurt is so delicious Reshma! And check out the rice cakes next time you’re in Canada 🙂
These are pretty much the same for my kids – the only thing you missed that I can’t live without is hummus. I actually eat hummus with rice crackers and olives a lot for an afternoon snack. We also like to keep mini pickles in the fridge 🙂
Oooh yes, hummus is a great one! Have you ever tried the spicy jalapeño hummus, it’s really good. That should be one of your future recipes, a desi hummus!
So jealous of the Key Lime flavoured Greek yoghurt! You can’t get that in the UK and it is my favourite, I always buy it when we are across the Atlantic. My favourite post-work snack is half (or whole if I am super hungry) a banana with a teaspoon of almond butter spread on it. Yum! I also like a few squares of dark chocolate at night some times, Green&Blacks Maya Gold is a particular favourite.
I can’t believe I only discovered the key lime recently, it’s so good Gemma! And I’ve never tried banana with almond butter, thanks for the tip.
