It’s hard to believe that in a few short weeks, summer vacation will be here! We’ve started planning a few of the things we want to do like a couple of small road trips, lazy days at home, beach excursions and of course a couple of summer camps.
I like to plan things for the summer because one of the things I always worry about during the vacation is too much screen time. Even though the kids are out of school for a couple months, it doesn’t mean I want to plop them in front of a computer or TV all day.
On the other hand, lets face it, technology isn’t going anywhere. Today’s children use and enjoy technology more than ever before. For my son, his favourite day at school is Thursday when they have computers. His eyes literally light up in excitement when he tells me what they did in “coding” that day.
Even though I limit screen time and technology for the kids, as I worry about the long term impact of too much, I also realize that I need to harness the positive aspects of it.
How Technology Can Be a Good Thing for the Kids:
1. It will give them a skill set for a possible future career.
2. Technology gives the kids a whole new platform to create and be creative.
3. Allowing kids to learn and explore tech in the right environment will teach them how to use in the right manner.
4. It can help them with problem solving by teaching them to understand a problem and work at it until they can solve it.
5. Computer programming can teach the kids how to reason and generalize their thinking especially with it comes to complicated problems.
So you can imagine, I was pretty excited when I learned about Level Up Kids, a tech camp for children. I started looking more into STEM education and Level Up Kids a little more. I figure if the kids are going to be into tech during the summer, it might as well be in an educational manner that they enjoy but are still learning!
I was happy to see that Level Up Kids has a wide range of camp choices that make technology fun while teaching the kids an important skill set. And who knows how it will impact or integrate into their future?
My 8-year old had a chance to get a little preview of the camps that are offered at the Burnaby campus in BC. He had such a great time! Between robotics, coding and mine craft building, we knew he wanted to register in a Level Up Kids camp, but which one was the tough question!
Different camp options for his age range include:
1. Minecraft Adventure
2. Game Design & Development with Scratch
3. Adventures in Programming

Level Up programs and camps are for kids aged 8-15. They are available in provinces all across Canada.
Keyan decided to sign up for Adventures in Programming. In this camp he will learn to program his very own Rasperry Pi computer which is actually the size of a credit card. But even though it’s small, there’s a lot you can do with it!
Here’s the best part, one lucky reader will win a free week of Level Up Kids Camp for their child. All you have to do is follow the Rafflecopter instructions below for your chance to win!!

They have lots of great choices!
Minecraft Adventure camp all the way!
Minecraft is definitely a favourite!
I think it’s so important to be teaching our kids how to use technology responsibly and for good. I love seeing a biz that is helping to guide our little ones in a positive direction !
He would probably do Intro To Programming! AWesome camps!
I think my son would love the adventure in programing camp. It sounds awesome!
It sounds like a good one!
She’s a little young but I bet Alivia would ROCK the YouTube camp! She’s a budding star! 🙂
These camps sound awesome! My girl took a day class in coding a couple of years ago and LOVED it. This is the kind of screen time I like 🙂
Inaya is so into coding and robotics – and I definitely want to give her as much opportunity as I can to follow this passion!
That’s a great way to look at it Taslim!
Oops! I forgot to say which camp she’d be interested in – I think Coding Girls would be her jam 🙂
LEVEL UP sounds like such an amazing program!
They have programs all over Ontario if your girl’s are interested Sarah!
I think Minecraft would be perfect!
